Q.    Is a Sports Massage only for athletes or sports persons, I don't play sport so would it still help me?

A.   A sports massage can be beneficial for anyone in their day to day lives, physical activities or sports, which can aide performance and recovery, and help alleviate the discomfort of aches, pains, strains, sprains (to name a few). Equally for athletes or those that have sustained an injury, it can aide recovery and rehabilitation.

Q.   What's the difference between a sports massage and a regular massage?

A.  The main difference between a regular massage and a sports massage,  is less candles and aromatherapy, more focus on the release of muscle tension using specific techniques to treat injuries, with the ability to focus on specific areas, create mobilsation of tissues and reduce pain and associated discomfort.

Q.   If I injure myself, can I book to see you straight away?

A.   Injuries have 'different stages'. The first phase (when the injury occurs) is called the acute stage, during which you may see swelling, redness, have loss of function of that limb/area and it may be particularly painful.

I will not treat anyone in the acute stage, so you would need to wait 48 to 72 hours prior to attending your appointment.  If you need any advice, please feel free to contact me to discuss.

Q.   I have heard sports massages hurt, is this true?

A.   This is an age old myth that for a sports massage to be effective it has to hurt, which is simply not accurate. Obviously if you have endured an injury the area may be sensitive, and although some of the techniques applied can be deep, you should never walk away from a sports massage feeling 'battered' and in more pain than when you arrived!

You may however experience some after effects from your massage which will be discussed with you at your treatment.

Q.   Do I have to take all my clothes off for the treatment?

A.   I am able to treat the area through a thin layer of clothing if required. It is a more effective treatment, with skin to skin contact, and I am able to provide towels to ensure every clients modesty. Ideally please wear loose fitting clothing that you are easily able to remove and replace, or that I can adjust and work around.

I will always work with the clients preference. If you would like to discuss this, then please contact me.

Q.  Can you treat children?

A.   Yes. The treatments are absolutely safe to use on children and young athletes. Pressure applied during any technique is based on the individual, and any direct pressure will be modified for them as necessary.  Through my gymnastics coaching, I have extensive practical experience of dealing with children and young athletes.

IMPORTANT: ALL children under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied throughout their treatment by a parent/legal guardian or appointed chaperone.

Q. How will I feel after my treatment?

A. There are a many factors that can affect this, to name a few;

1) the injury/issue being treated;

2) If you have had previous treatments;

3) Your current physical and emotional general wellness;
