Service Description

Why would a child need a sports massage? Children are invincible, aren’t they? They just bounce back from any soreness or injury, don’t they? Some people maybe just don’t realise that children are just as prone to muscle tightness/soreness and scar tissue as are us grown-ups. More children are taking part in regular and quality-level sport with higher and increased training hours, physical demands and more. This is great for their overall health and fitness, but through this we must remember and take into consideration they are still growing and developing, and this can be where their problems/discomforts can come from. Children aged 8-16 in development/pre-elite sports are often training extended hours and increased levels of intensity whilst being prone to growth related pain and injuries, due to growth spurts. Bones often grow more rapidly than muscles, putting muscle fibres under strain, causing tightness, pain and an increased risk of tearing. Sports massage can help to ease this pain and keep the muscles healthy, by increasing blood flow, waste removal and gently stretching the fibres, increasing or regaining flexibility through those growth spurts and puberty. Over-training, lack of rest, combined with explosive movements / overuse / repetitive movements can cause injuries, or risk of developing issues such as Osgood Schlatter’s (common debilitating knee issue). Understanding childhood overuse/injuries is important for their long-term care, whilst they maybe don’t understand the importance of looking after their precious bodies, they should not just be allowed to ‘wear them out’ – rather, lets help, educate and reinforce forms of protective maintenance from that early age – SPORTS MASSAGE is a great step in this. PLEASE NOTE: Parental consent to treatment is required and if a child attends for a treatment, the adult with parental/guardianship responsibilities for the child will need to remain for the duration of the treatment.

Cancellations will be charged at full price for less than 12hours notice, and 50% with 12-24 hours notice. Cancellations or rescheduled appointments with 24+hours notice will incur no charge.
